Charles Darwin

Biologist who formulated the theory of evolution.

Charles Darwin developed his evolutionary work in nineteenth-century Britain after the Beagle voyage, decades of specimen study, correspondence, experimentation, and engagement with breeders and naturalists. He argued for descent with modification and natural selection, later extending evolutionary reasoning to variation, sexual selection, human origins, emotions, plants, and earthworms.
